Delicious Hiyashi Chuka Noodles at a Kyoto Style Ramen Shop

At a five-minute walk from Ebisu station West Exit, there is a ramen restaurant I recommend. You will notice the eye-catching sign. “Yottekoya”, a Kansai phrase to mean, “Stop by”, is the name of this restaurant.

As you can imagine from the restaurant’s name, Yottekoya serves Kansai style, particularly Kyoto style ramen. Its characteristic is the rich but not thick soup that uses Tonkotsu (pork bone) and chicken stock. Many customers come back here for this style of ramen that is pretty unusual in Tokyo.

The restaurant has both counter and table seats and can contain about 30 people. It’s pretty spacious for a ramen restaurant.

Other than ramen, Yottekoya has a wide selection of alcohol beverages and little snacks to go with drinks. It’s also a nice place to use as an izakaya bar, for a light dinner and drinks. I’ve had their Karaage (fried chicken) before and it’s really really good!

I went to sit at the table and took a look at the menu.

I usually order Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen (Tonkotsu and soy sauce soup ramen) when I come here, but this time, the summer specials were what caught my attention!

As I was all sweaty from the heat outside, I decided on the Hiyashi Chuka, a typical summer noodle dish. It usually consists of cold noodles topped with some sliced pork, egg and vegetables, and sesame or soy based sauce.

After ten minutes of waiting, my delicious looking Hiyashi Chuka is here!

The colors look really nice! I especially enjoy it when the food not only tastes good but also is beautifully presented.

A good amount of chashu pork slices, seasoned half-boiled egg, bean sprouts and negi leek.

The curly noodles are a bit on the hard side. The chilled noodles go perfectly with the sauce that uses sesame, soy sauce and vinegar. Delicious!

The charcoal grilled chashu is very flavorful and is surprisingly good cold too.

The kaiware sprouts and tomato are very light and make the dish refreshing.

The Hiyashi Chuka might not be enough if you come in very hungry, but then I would recommend you order something from the many delicious side dishes.

They even have interesting dishes like Tomato Genovese Ramen. Try something unusual and expand your culinary palette!

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. If you are in the Ebisu area, “Yottekoya”!
