Nihonbashi Suminoe is on the second floor of Coredo Muromachi, which has a lot of energy that you can feel.
The restaurant has direct deal contract with a company in Miyazaki, which has some fishing boats.
The inside is spacious than it seems from the outside, having some tables in the back.
The kitchen looks like a fish store, and the decoration is stylish. It feels somehow comfortable.
They have a special menu of grilled extra large herring.
I was surprised to see the size of the herring. I couldn’t imagine that it was this big!
‘Genshi-yaki’ means to grill something carefully over a strong fire.
This is the reason that the outside of the fish is crispy and the inside is soft!
When I was eating, I noticed that the fish had a big skewer made of tree. This might be the reason of the name ‘Genshi-Yaki (Primitive-grill)’.
The taste of herring becomes much richer when you eat this with grated Daikon (a kind of radisshies).
As it is herring, it has a lot of fine bones. The more a fish has fine bones, the richer it tastes, I think.
I was trying to separate fine bones when I found something interesting!
The fish had herring roe!! Mmm, this is delicious!!!
Daikon, pieces of carrot and leek was in the miso soup, this was perfect to this main dish.
In the bowl of rice that I left a little intentionally, I put some pieces of herring, Nori (a kind of seaweed), grated Daikon, pieces of leek, Wasabi (Japanese horseradish), and finally some soup stock.
This is Ochazuke and some times, Japanese people prepare this in the end of their meal.
This was also very tasty!
I can’t believe that the price of this menu is only 1,100 yen. This must be the reason why it is limited to 20 dishes.
