This is the place to go for Oyakodon (rice in a large bowl with chicken, egg etc.) in Shibuya. “Hashida-ya”!
Other than this main restaurant in Shibuya, there are branches in Nakameguro, Roppongi and Sapporo in Hokkaido.
The restaurant in Shibuya is made up of the first floor counter area and the second floor. It’s a pretty cozy place.
I arrived after the busiest time of lunch hour so was able to get a seat by the counter in no time.
I am sooo ready for my Oyakodon!
I have to say, I am enjoying the view from here, watching the making process of my beloved Oyakodon!
They offer three menus for lunch: Oyakodon, Soborodon (rice in a large bowl with minced meat, scrambled egg etc.) and Chicken Nanban (fried chicken with vinegar and tartar sauce). The restaurant only makes 30 servings of Soborodon and Chicken Nanban each day. No time to waste!
Although the Soborodon was extremely tempting, I managed to follow my initial plan and order Oyakodon. Looking around, it seems like that’s what most people are having too!
I wait for ten long minutes… and my Oyakodon is ready!
I am so excited to open the lid!
Look at the beautiful sparkling egg yoke!
The intensely yellow yoke looks so soft.
I bring the egg yoke to the middle, cut into it with the spoon… the beautiful yellow mixes in the seasoned chicken and egg topping. I taste one spoonful.
Deeellliciousss!!!
The gentle flavor of the egg runs through my mouth.
Of course, the chicken is very tasty too! They take pride in using only high quality thigh and breast meats.
Both meats are tasty. It’s nice to be able to enjoy two different parts.
I think I will come back next time in the evening to try the Yakitori using this chicken!
If you want a bit of change in the Oyakodon, sprinkle some Shichimi or Sansho pepper, placed on the counter. According to the message they put up, the Oyakodon is best if you sprinkle some seasonings while the bowl is still hot, put back on the lid, and leave it for 30 seconds and the flavor and aroma will grow!
I sprinkled on some black pepper.
The added spice gives just the extra flavor the Oyakodon needed!
Inside this little jar on the counter are pickles.
The salty and slightly spicy pickles go really well with the Oyakodon, too!
To finish the meal, a bowl of chicken stock soup for just \50 more.
The chicken soup was very flavorful as well.
I am so full now! Thank you for this extremely satisfying lunch!!
