“Buttaku” specializes in what they call “real buta-don”, a bowl of rice topped with pork. The interesting restaurant name is a blend of the word “buta” which means pork, and the word “clock”. It is inspired by “Hanakku” (blend of “hana” meaning flower, and “clock”), a famous sightseeing spot in Tokachi, Hokkaido, a location also famous for buta-don.
You can see the interior from the outside. The first floor has a counter and looks exactly like a dining bar.
As you enter the door, there is the cash register on the right, and a staircase to the basement on the left.
As I was by myself, I was taken to the counter.
The lightings bring some atmosphere to the place.
The counter can contain about fourteen people.
I had already made up my mind even before I glanced at the menu. Buta-don, obviously.
You can choose the pork from the loin or belly meats. I like fatty meat, so went with belly!
I see smoke coming from the glassed-in kitchen. That’s my pork they’re preparing!
Ten minutes later, the dish is placed in front of me.
So this is Butakku’s famous buta-don.
The mountain of white negi leek, and of course, the shining pork… It all looks amazing!
The sauce is in this container. You can adjust the amount of sauce.
When it was served to me, the dish had very little sauce. I guess they’re trying to state that they aren’t like some places, where they cheat with the sauce. I like the confidence!
Although I was watching the meat being prepared, I didn’t realize how thick it is. It probably condenses as it is being roasted.
I take a bite of the belly meat!
Delicious!! The slightly sweet fat and tasty sauce are perfect together!
The sauce is not too strong but is very flavorful. It goes really well with rice.
I tried adding a little extra sauce. I think I like this even more! The flavor just got richer.
I found the color of the rice bowl was very tasteful too.
The buta-don was so delicious that I finish it in no time!
