Shitamachi is the term used to define the low-lying area of a city characteristic for its friendly and traditional atmosphere. In Tokyo, it would be Asakusa or the Edogawa area, for example.
Edogawa district is known for its famous fireworks event “Edogawa Hanabi Taikai” held during the summer.
Mizue is right next to the station of the Edogawa Hanabi Taikai venue.
This day, I was particularly in the mood to walk around the Shitamachi, an area that I have a lot of affection for. I decided to take a break at one of my favorite cafés, in front of the station.
With a magazine in my hand (that I bought at the bookstore on the first floor), I went up the stairs to the entrance of an established café, “Coffee House Shanoaru”, situated on the second floor.
The pricing is very reasonable, as it was in the old times.
The spacious restaurant has both tables and counter seats.
The café is popular among all sorts of people: students, busy salary men, or even elderly customers who want to enjoy their tea in a calm atmosphere.
My absolute favorite thing to have here, is the Caramel Banana Brioche. The freshly baked brioche with the sweet caramel sauce and pieces of banana is sooo good!
And it only costs ¥260! This is extremely reasonable for the quality of the dessert, I promise!!
I wait for the brioche, reading my magazine, sipping my milk tea.
After ten minutes, my brioche dessert is here!
Just look at this. The sweet caramel smell is sooo tempting!
I cut the fluffy brioche with my knife and fork. Itadakimasu!
The aroma of the nuts and the fresh banana fill my mouth.
The rich cream is quite filling. But I have no trouble finishing the dessert because it’s so delicious!
When I came here with my friend in the past, she loved it so much that she even ordered a second one. Yes, she ate two exact same desserts.
What I’m trying to say, is that this brioche is really good. Like REALLY good.
I appreciate that they serve the brioche fresh out of the oven. Only fresh brioches can be this soft.
Why not take a break from the busy city life, at a relaxing Shitamachi café. I’m sure you will have a wonderful time!
