Recently, karaoke has become very popular around the world.
While there are more and more karaoke bars and boxes in many countries, nowhere competes neither to the number, nor to the quality of Japanese karaoke boxes.
Today, I am going to introduce you to just a couple of our karaoke boxes.
Let’s start with Karaoke-kan.
One of the most popular karaoke box chains, Karaoke-kan has 78 branches in Tokyo, as of today (October 2015).
The entrance lobby is quite spacious and resembles that of a hotel. Other than karaoke, some branches are equipped with a space to play darts.
The size of the room you will get depends on how big your group is.
The standard size is more or less like this.
The lighting changes with the music. Watch the pictures on the wall appear, hit by the ultraviolet light.
The lightings definitely help build up the mood!
This is what the remote control tablet looks like.
There are plenty of choices of snacks and cocktails.
I recommend Karaoke-kan for anyone looking to enjoy the whole karaoke party experience, from the singing to the ambiance.
Next, I am going to introduce you to SHIDAX.
SHIDAX has 21 branches in Tokyo as of today.
SHIDAX, being a company that originally started off in the food-service industry, the menus they serve are quite impressive for karaoke quality.
The interior looks very clean.
I’m always impressed by the polite staff at SHIDAX. I guess the company takes staff training seriously! It’s always nice and clean, too.
The standard room is around this size.
It’s relatively spacious.
The remote control tablet to enter songs looks like this.
The food menu includes “real dishes”, such as salad spring rolls and fluffy omelet with rice.
If you are hungry, you might want to get the reasonable lunch and room package!
SHIDAX is for those who want to enjoy both the singing and the food.
Finally, I am going to introduce you to Utahiroba.
As of today, there are 52 Utahiroba branches in Tokyo.
Don’t ask why, but it seems like every branch has a Chupa Chups vending machine!
Utahiroba is probably the most popular karaoke box among young people, as the pricings are reasonable and includes self-service drinks in the room charge.
The rooms are pretty small.
The sound often leeks from the rooms and there is a permanent smoky cigarette smell.
I got a cup of corn soup and a glass of their original juice.
Most of the food is under ¥500.
This ¥399 Neapolitan spaghetti was not bad!
Utahiroba is good for a small group, for or those who don’t want to spend a lot of money.
As you saw, karaoke boxes are quite diverse in what they offer. Make sure to choose the right one depending on what you are looking to find, and you will no doubt have a fun time!
Create some great trip memories at a Japanese style karaoke box!
