English and Chinese menus available! Super reasonable seafood izakaya

Sakura Suisan is located at a one-minute walk from Shinjuku Sanchome station. It is a seafood izakaya on the second basement level of a building.

When I think of seafood izakaya, the first thought that comes to me is that it is a bit pricy.

However, Sakura Suisan definitely doesn’t fit in this stereotype. ¥390 for a glass of beer, and the average of the menus is ¥300! The restaurant offers reasonable, but delicious food.

It’s a wallet-friendly izakaya ^_^

The room has a darkish lighting. The tables are quite big. The restaurant can contain about 70 people in total.

To order, use the touch-screen menu. Can’t read Japanese? Not to worry. There are also menus in English and Chinese!

There are touch-screens on all tables, even the ones for one or two persons. It’s a great system for a big restaurant, as it is sometimes difficult to get the attention of the busy staff!

This time, I came here to have a proper dinner and not just drinks. I decided to order sushi.

After about ten minutes, my sushi is ready! ^_^

The sushi include maguro (tuna), tai (sea bream), engawa (flounder edge), squid, octopus, shrimp, salmon, kohada (gizzard shad), uni (urchin) and even ikura (salmon roe).

6

I can’t believe I get to have all this for only ¥780!

The sushi comes with a bowl of wakame seaweed and ofu (dried wheat gluten) miso soup.

I pour a little soy sauce on a separate plate.

Very tasty!

Obviously, it isn’t the quality of fancy sushi restaurants, but the fish are definitely tasty. The pieces are big, fresh but not watery. In fact, the restaurant buys fish directly from local sellers.

The salmon roe has a popping texture!

It’s excellent quality for the reasonable price.

Look at the menu on each table to decide what you want, then order using the touch screen!

Also, Sakura Suisan is the place to go if you want to start drinking early! It opens as izakaya at 4:00 pm on weekdays and 12:00 pm (noon) on the weekends.

I highly recommend the wonderful Sakura Suisan, both as a restaurant and izakaya.
