Mirokuan is an izakaya located at a two-minute walk from Sendagaya station.
What’s special about Mirokuan is the wide selection of set menus, even though it’s an izakaya.
They have a bigger number of set meals than an average teishokuya, a restaurant that specializes in casual household menus.
The menus include the standard fried chicken or grilled fish sets, and even don (bowl of rice topped with meat vegetables etc.) sets.
“Irashai!!!”
I am warmly welcomed as I enter the restaurant.
The restaurant has a Showa*-like atmosphere, which is very comforting to me.

The restaurant is spread on two stories, the second floor usually being reserved for bigger groups.
The Japanese style interior design is very charming!
The grilled mackerel here is excellent! But today, I am going to go for the Sukiyaki-don that I’ve been curious to try for some time already.
The TV in the room gives a homey atmosphere.
As I am watching TV and feeling relaxed, my meal is served!
The soy sauce flavor fills the air! I feel my appetite growing!
I was expecting to see a raw egg as it is a Sukiyaki-don, but it looks like the egg is already mixed in the meat and sauce.
Looks so delicious!
I take a bite, and the sweet and salty umami flavor soaked in the rice spreads through my mouth.
The appearance is quite different from Sukiyaki but it sure has the taste!
The rice is slightly hard, so it can stay firm even when absorbing the sauce. It’s really tasty!
The thin slices of beef are very tender. Mixing it with egg, the taste becomes nice and mild, getting rid of the particular beef smell.
Other than beef, there is also shirataki made of konjac flour and mitsuba leaf to add an accent to the taste.
The side dish is, Nukazuke, pickles made in brine and fermented rice bran.
The Nukazuke is excellent as well! It used to be a common household dish, but is rare nowadays. It’s nice to see some restaurants serve it.
So nostalgic! So tasty!
There’s no better accompaniment for rice.
The set also comes with a bowl of wakame seaweed and tofu miso soup.
What a great meal!
The taste, as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing, it almost feels like I’m back home.
I could never get tired of this place!
Dear Mirokuan, please don’t ever change.
I will be back!
