Azabu-juban is an area with many long-established Japanese restaurants. Tempting area for Washoku lovers.
Among them, there are 3-4 restaurants where you can eat Grilled Fish Teishoku. One of them is Himono Anbai.
The delicious salted mackerel is the best! This is why I come here 1-2 times a month.
The entrance creates a unique atmosphere and makes you feel as though you are in Kyoto. The Japanese maple and seasoned woods creates a warm ambience. It may be red leaves in Autumn.
The building is two stories high. The first floor has counter-seats and on the second floor, there are table and Zashiki (a room floored with tatami mats) seats.
It wasn’t too crowded when I came here at 13:00 on a weekday.
If you don’t mind taking off your shoes, Zashiki seats would be nice!
If you choose to sit on the counter-seats on the first floor, you get to see the fish being grilled.
You may also keep in mind that it is grilled on a charcoal. This is what makes the fish crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.
For lunch:
Aji-himono Teishoku ¥1000 (horse mackerel)
Saba-himono Teishoku ¥1000 (mackerel)
Sake-shioyaki Teishoku ¥1300 (salmon)
Gintara-saikyoyaki Teishoku ¥1500 (sablefish)
Maguro Zuke-don ¥1500 (tuna)
ANBAI provided me with the best mackerel ever. Without thinking, I ordered Saba-himono Teishoku. I never ordered anything else so I may not be accurate, but I am sure other Teishoku are as good as Saba-himono Teishoku. I am definitely going to try other menus next time.
In addition to the fish, it comes with rice, pickles, miso soup, boiled dish, and spinach.
Mackerel put on fat in this season!
It’s delicious as it is but you could also add grated radish and soy sauce. You can actually enjoy the mackerel two ways.
Once you try the mackerel at ANBAI I am sure you wont be able to put your chopsticks down. It’s SUPER ADDICTING.
In the evening, ANBAI opens as a Izakaya. During the day, it opens as a Teishoku-ya but the quality of the fish doesn’t change. So I guess it’s more reasonable going during lunch.
In this luxurious residential area in Azabu, it is definitely wallet-friendly that you get to eat delicious mackerel for just ¥1000.
