“Genkitei” is a health food restaurant, supervised by Ecolo Cooking School that specializes in macrobiotic cuisine.
It is a rare restaurant it Tokyo, where you can really eat healthy.
They are open for lunch, and for dinner, only under reservation.
They offer many different lunch menus. I could go everyday
Healthy food isn’t exactly the first choice for many. It might be hard to find somebody that is willing to tag along. But, this is the perfect restaurant if you are eating alone. What I mean is, most restaurants just have a few seats at the counter, if they do at all. But at “Genkitei”, there are twelve seats by the counter.
Feel free to use the “Genmai Furikake”, seasonings to sprinkle over whole rice, and “Granule with Spirulina” on the counter.
I decided on “Shokuji Michizen”, which looked particularly beautiful on the menu. For the rice, I chose the whole rice kind with cereals in it.
It was brought to me after five minutes. It looks even better than I expected! This is so exciting! The presentation is so gorgeous that I’m almost just satisfied by looking at it!
The hamburger made of hijiki seaweed, marinated sardine, kimchi pickled bean sprouts, chopped burdock root, pickles and corn on the cob.
I tried the rice with the Genmai Furikake on the counter. The whole rice flavor increases. There isn’t the particular smell that whole rice sometimes has. It’s nice and chewy!
The miso soup is full of vegetables like daikon radish, carrot and negi leek. The gentle flavor of miso warms me up from the inside.
Although it was lunch hour, I was able to relax and enjoy the meal without feeling like I was rushed to leave. It made me feel completely refreshed after a busy couple of hours at work.
Even after you finish your meal, you can sit there and quietly drink tea. It’s the perfect place to have lunch by yourself. A restaurant like this that is supervised by a nutritionist must be very rare in Tokyo.
The friendly restaurant that welcomes you with a warm greeting “Genkitei” is definitely able to make you feel “genki”, happy and refreshed.
