EDO SHOUEN

The restaurants in the Solamachi building are always filled with tourists. But there is actually a hidden yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant called “Edo Shouen”, on the other side of the Jikken Kawa River.

Enjoy Kobe beef at a Yakiniku restaurant right by the Tokyo Sky Tree

The restaurants in the Solamachi building are always filled with tourists. But there is actually a hidden yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant called “Edo Shouen”, on the other side of the Jikken Kawa River. Because they are a meat wholesaler, they are able to provide very reasonably priced Kobe beef.

It is a rather small restaurant but the tables are situated at a good distance from one another. There is also a second floor.

Exceptional Kobe beef kalbi

Here is the lunch menu. It’s unbelievable that they offer Kobe beef kalbi lunch set for only 3000 yen! I ordered Kobe beef kalbi together with red Wakahime beef and Mochibuta Chuck Eye Roll (pork).

First came the two dipping sauces and then the green salad, namul and even soup.

And here is the Kobe beef!!! Wow, the glossy surface mixed with fat looks delicious!!!
The meat definitely has great presence. The fat helps the red meat grill beautifully. The flavor is exquisite.
I dip it in the sauce and taste it together with some rice.
It’s so soft… the fat almost instantly melts in my mouth. It’s beyond delicious.

I now will grill the Wakahime red meat and the Mochibuta.
To be completely honest, it was a downfall after the supreme quality Kobe beef… but I definitely don’t mean it’s not tasty.
The Wakahime red meat has little fat. It doesn’t have the rich taste of the Kobe beef, but is simple and tasty. The Mochibuta has, as indicated in its name, the “mochi” chewy kind of consistency. It’s light and tasty as well.

The dessert is (surprisingly) delicious too

The typical dessert of a Yakiniku restaurant is ice cream. But here they served bavarois (made of custard, whipped cream and gelatin) covered in kiwi sauce. I have to say my expectations were not high, but it was actually really good! It’s really nice to see a Yakiniku restaurant put in effort in their desserts too. Don’t forget to order dessert if you have a sweet tooth like me.

I exit the restaurant and look up. The Sky Tree is looking over me. What a view!
Holding my satisfied belly and taking a good look of the Sky Tree exterior… I feel happy, plain and simple.
