Popular udon restaurant in Nezu

I visited Kamachiku, an udon restaurant I knew to be very popular.

It is located at a five-minute walk from the station. The garden is beautiful!
The restaurant holds the Michelin Bib Gourmand title, which means… you will need to expect to wait in a long line during lunch hours!

My friends having made a reservation for 18:00, we were able to get in right away. The wooden style interior design is so charming!
The Japanese style low table (kotatsu) is very relaxing, with a hole in the floor so you can stretch your legs.

I see many tourists!

Before anything, let’s order some Yebisu beer.
Together with the hors d’oeuvre, shark gristle seasoned with plum. Kanpai!

3

I love the crunchy texture!

4

The egg has been carefully prepared one by one at the restaurant. It’s fluffy but quite filling.

5

Here is the freshly made satsumaage, minced fish cake.
It’s been fried just right so that it’s crispy on the outside but soft on the inside!
The hint of ginger adds that little special something to the taste. Excellent!

6

Next is, the assorted tempura.

It looks gorgeous!
High quality tempura is best with just a little salt. The vegetables are all very fresh and tasty.
I particularly like the crispy lotus root.

And finally, udon!!! I’ve been waiting for this!!

Frist, the waiter brings me toppings and seasonings. Bits of fried tempura batter, chopped up negi leek and ginger.

The waiter came to pour the sauce in the bowl.

At last, the udon is here.

9

Kamaage udon soaked in hot water (above), and chilled zaru udon (below).

Between the two, I prefer the hot kamaage udon. The chewy and firm texture is excellent!
The dipping sauce is not too salty and very flavorful.

Overall, I really enjoyed the meal. The udon is of course delicious, but I was truly impressed by the quality of the appetizers.
I don’t think there is any udon restaurant that serves such high quality side dishes.
I especially recommend the satsumaage!!

As they have an ample selection of wine, sake and shochu, I would recommend coming here for dinner rather than lunch.
I’m sure that tourists will love this place!

I’m definitely coming back. Thank you, Kamachiku!
