Get better value than you pay for at all-you-can-eat shabushabu restaurant, “Onyasai”

At just four minutes from West Exit of Ikebukuro station, you will find Onyasai, the well-known chain shabushabu restaurant. It is situated on the fifth floor of a tall building.

The shabushabu restaurant Onyasai offers various menus including the popular all-you-can-eat course. It’s the place to go if you’re looking for quality shabushabu without spending a crazy amount of money. It’s super convenient too because they usually have at least one branch near any major station.

The dimmed lights interior has a nice atmosphere. You can choose to eat at a table, or at a hori-gotatsu (low table over a whole in the floor), for perhaps a more authentic experience. The restaurant can also accommodate big groups.

This time, I decided to share with my friend the all-you-can-eat of beef, pork and vegetables.

You will be able to choose two dipping soups of your choice. Other than the standard konbu dashi (seaweed broth), they offer hot pot, soymilk, tomato and curry flavors, as well as sukiyaki soup.

We went with hot pot and soymilk.

For the all-you-can-eat, they first bring you the fixed amount of meat and vegetables. After you finish this, you will be able to order what ever you want, as much as you want.

First, I put in the lettuce and enoki mushrooms and stir the pot around.

The meat and tsumire (fish ball) have arrived too! Everything looks delicious.

I wrap the slightly “shabushabu-ed” meat with lettuce and dip it in the ponzu sauce (citrus flavored soy sauce).

8

The extremely thin meat slices are very soft and delicious!

My personal favorite way to eat tsumire is to dip it in the sesame sauce, after mixing it with garlic and ground sesame. It’s exquisite!

I had fun preparing my own ground sesame.

I have another recommendation. Ask for “sharanegi” (kind of leek), wrap the meat inside and eat it with ponzu sauce.

12

The crunchy negi and the juicy meat make an excellent combo!

Also included in the all-you-can-eat course are mizu-gyoza (dumplings), rice, ramen noodles, little snacks to go with alcohol and various desserts.

This here is mentai-kyuuri (spicy cod roe and cucumber).

It’s my favorite snack to have with a glass of beer! Look at the very luxurious amount of cod roe!

The all-you-can-eat course is valid for 120 minutes. Last orders are to be made 30 minutes before this time limit.

With everything we had, including alcohol, the bill came to less than 10,000 yen for the two of us. I definitely felt like I had more than my money’s worth.

I advise you to go to Onyasai with an empty stomach. I assure you, your belly will not leave unsatisfied!
