Utsukushi no Yu at Takaido, Suginami-ku is a hot spring facility drawn from 1600 meters underground. Freshen up with a hot bath at this facility surrounded by lush greenery.
First off, the outdoor hot spring.
This authentic outdoor hot spring is separated into the “upper bath” (上の湯) and the “lower bath” (下の湯), in which the latter is a Nagare-yu, meaning that there is a constant flow of water in the bathtub.
For people wishing to freshen up in a hot, scorching bath, the “upper bath” is the way to go, while people wanting to have a slow, relaxing bath in a water of moderate temperature, should take a dip in the “lower bath”.
There is a variety of baths available with different water flows and bubbles to loosen up and relax your body.
There are two different saunas to choose from at this facility; one is a “Far-infrared radiation sauna” of high temperature and another is a Jomon era style steam bath, which is a low temperature sauna.
There is also a full-fledged heated pool at this onsen facility, with a large-sized Jacuzzi at the poolside.
This pool is only available on weekends and holidays for visitors (Although the facility is open to visitors as well, it generally operates under a membership system).
Here, there are a wide selection of meals available, such as soba, udon, ramen, curry rice, oden, rice balls... the list goes on.
A cold glass of beer after a refreshing bath is always bliss. Enjoy a variety of delicious Japanese “Otsumami” along with your drink! As an “otsumami”, or side dishes to nibble on while having a drink, we recommend the croquettes, edamames, or the deep-fried horse mackerels.
