The natural hot spring draws its water from 500 meters underground and the water is clouded with a color famously expressed as “Uguisu-iro”, named after the Japanese bush warbler, which is a bird with an olive-green like color. A natural hot spring of such color is very hard to find in Tokyo. The bath is cleaned every morning and the water is entirely drained and refilled each time, which ensures that the hot spring is kept hygienic. The color of the water is different each day, which is another thing you might be able to enjoy as well if you are lucky enough to be able to visit this facility on another day.

Aside from the outdoor hot spring or the jacuzzi, you can enjoy a unique selection of baths such as electric baths, “tachi-yu” (a bath while standing up), or “ne-yu” (a bath while laying down). There are also dry saunas, steam saunas, stone saunas, aromatherapies, and massages available (Separate fee for the stone sauna, aromatherapy, massages etc.)

Enjoy the seasonal ingredients! The exquisite “soba” at Shitensha

Onsen is not the only reason for the popularity of this facility - it is also the food.
Seasonal vegetables are always available at Shitensha, where the interior gives off an authentic Japanese feel and also gives you the choice between sitting at a table or at a “zashiki”, a Japanese tatami room in which you take off your shoes. A relaxed meal while staring out into the beautiful Japanese garden is surely an experience you do not want to miss.

The recommended menu is definitely the soba, which is freshly grained, freshly made, and freshly boiled here at Shitensha. The aroma is exquisite and the flavor is not something you can easily find elsewhere at an onsen facility or in fact, at a soba restaurant.
Aside from the soba, you can also enjoy a Japanese cuisine plate, tempura, and others.

The Japanese garden that will cleanse your mind

This facility is originally a mansion built over 65 years ago, which explains the nostalgic and tranquil feel of the building. However, as impressive as the building, is its Japanese garden. As the season transitions, the garden too changes. In the spring, the cherry blossoms and the azaleas bloom and in the fall, the maple trees put on their autumn colors of red and yellow. Spending the day away staring out into the garden while listening to the birds sing may be a good alternative to sightseeing for those a bit worn out in the hustle and bustle of busy Tokyo.
