Established in 1955, Hisamatsu Onsen still retains the atmosphere of a bathhouse in the Showa-era.
The black-water onsen, drawn from 200 meters underground, is said to be of very high quality in the Ota-ku region. The water is rich with minerals - great for both skin and body!
The scorching water will keep you nice and warm. The black-water onsen is known as “Bijin no yu”, meaning “hot spring of beauty”.
You can also get all the necessities right here in this facility.
There are towels, soaps, shavers, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, and other necessities that can be purchased for a reasonable price.
Both the interior and the exterior of the facility are bound to make any Japanese person nostalgic for the onsen of the Showa-era.
You can also relax in the lobby after enjoying the onsen. Have a drink or an ice cream and make yourself at home.
But one thing to note is that smoking prohibited within the facility, so smokers will need to head to the designated space outside for a smoke.
There is a monthly event called the “Rakugo Onsen” at this facility, which we highly recommend if you ever get the chance.
For a reasonable price of 1500 yen, you can enjoy both the onsen and the rakugo performance, which is a traditional Japanse comic storytelling. Have a glass of alcohol while enjoying the performance from a spacious zashiki, or a Japanese-style seat. Afterwards, you can have a dip in the relaxing onsen.
This even is held on the mornings of the fourth Saturdays of the month.
